5 Ways to Overcome Creative Block

As a creative person, staying in the zone is tough. Whether you are a writer, an artist, or video editor, trying to come up with great ideas can seem impossible. Here are five suggestions to get back into that creative flow!

1. Change Your Space

Whether you are working in an office or working from home, it’s important to change up your area in some way or another. A freshen-up in your work area is so important for not only your creative workflow but your mental health. You can do this by going to a coffee shop to work, moving your work area at your desk, or even just tidying up your workspace.

2. Create a Morning Routine

Getting up early and starting your day with a routine is highly important for your creative flow. Yes, I know sleeping is the best. Even if it’s 10 minutes before your normal alarm goes off, getting up early is so important to how you start your day - and getting past the creative block.

3. Write It Down

We’ve all been told that starting your day with an objective is important, but have you ever done it for creative endeavors? Writing down your ideas, good and bad, is so important for overcoming that creative block. Once it’s down on paper, give yourself permission to write something ugly, or bad, then improve on it. This gets the creative juices flowing!

4. Get Outdoors

On the other side of the coin, taking a break is good for your creative flow. If you find yourself not focusing or even just mindlessly staring at the screen, stepping away from a task may do you some good. Taking a quick 10-minute break during lunch to go on a quick walk will do wonders for your creativity, your mental health, and your physical well-being! Plus you get some extra vitamin D! It’s a win-win!

5. Notepad on Your Bedside Table

Don’t you hate it when you have a great idea at night, and forget it by morning? If you are anything like me, your best ideas come at night when you are getting ready for bed, or during a dream. If you have a notepad or a scrap of paper by the bedside, you can wake up from a crazy - creative dream, and write it down so you won’t forget.
